Sowing And Reaping

I want to address some of the questions I get asked the most such as, “What do you get out of this podcast? How do you convert your listeners to buyers? What do you do with Facebook? What do you do with all your videos and your webinars? How do you make money out of it?”

wheat-932682_1280For example, I started Periscope only a couple of weeks ago with about 10 people online and now my following on there is growing. During my training sessions over  the last few weeks, I received questions such as, “How do you monetize it?”

It’s an interesting question and I’ve been thinking about how I can explain what I do and why I do it.

A few years ago, I might have said, “I just want to provide value” and “Whatever you give comes back”. It’s not really practical and it’s not a good distinction. Where I am today in my business is a result of providing a lot of value to people.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a three day event coaching my Bar Raisers group on how to grow their business online. While I was teaching, I came up with two words: Sowing and Reaping.

In business, I define sowing and reaping as the following:

Sowing is synonymous with marketing, which means becoming really valuable, creating value and content.

Reaping is online sales; getting the people who follow you online or from your mailing list to buy your products or services. Giving your followers more value will eventually make them give you cash.

In my business we done a lot of sowing. I have over 1,000 videos on YouTube, a daily podcast, multiple Periscope sessions a week, and I post five times a day on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest. I have done hundreds of webinars, written one book and 18 free e-books. I produced a lot of content, which is sowing.

Being a great marketer is one of the greatest assets you can have in your business

At this moment I am sowing by creating a blog posting. I am not thinking about whether people will go to my webpage or listen to my podcast. I don’t care. I actually love what I do and that is good enough for me.

In addition to sowing, you also have to be good at reaping. A lot of entrepreneurs don’t know how to convert their traffic into money.

Today I have a meeting with someone who has a big following on one of the hot social media platforms, but doesn’t have a clue on how to monetize. He knows how to sow but he doesn’t know how to reap. Reaping is important. It’s extracting money from your following, in a good way, of course.

It’s a great phrase, “sowing and reaping” and it is simple, but very effective. It gives you more peace of mind when you are sowing, knowing what you will eventually get out of it.

Being a great marketer is one of the greatest assets you can have in your business. If you are a great sower and a great reaper you never have to worry about business again; you never have to worry about finances again, because you know how to make money, which is really powerful.
